A leading British expert, Professor Millstone, has called for an investigation into serious health concerns over the artificial sweetener aspartame – after the EU food watchdog insisted it was safe.
The European Food Safety Authority has published a draft scientific opinion effectively rubbishing more than 20 studies which have identified potential problems with the sweetener, ranging from premature births to cancer.
The authority’s view will be welcomed by manufacturers who use aspartame and similar sweeteners in fizzy drinks such as Diet Coke, and diet foods consumed by millions of people every day.
Professor Millstone suggested that the EFSA panel that carried out the assessment was dominated by experts linked to manufacturers or regulators that have previously supported aspartame.
‘Of the 17 members of the EFSA panel, seven have direct commercial conflicts of interest, and another five have institutional conflicts of interest, for example, because their employers have already announced that aspartame is safe’ he said.
An EU-funded project published in 2010 found that pregnant women who drank fizzy drinks containing artificial sweeteners appear to be at greater risk of having a premature baby.
He also highlighted work by the independent Ramazzini Foundation in Italy.
Its scientists have published research suggesting aspartame caused several types of cancer in rats at doses very close to the current acceptable daily intake for humans.
"Perhaps the longest on-going study on the deleterious effects of aspartame consumption has been that of Woodrow Monte, PhD, Professor Emeritus of Food Science and Nutrition at Arizona State University."
Woody's research shows the dramatic growth in autism after the introduction of aspartame into soft drinks.
He has graphs showing relationships with consumption of aspartame to rapidly growing rates of:
Neural tube defects
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
Breast Cancer A
Breast Cancer B
Upon ingestion, aspartame breaks down into natural residual components, including aspartic acid, phenylalanine, methanol, and other breakdown products including formaldehyde, formic acid, and a diketopiperazine. Most of these compounds are deadly in certain concentration, so if you use low sugar drinks and sweeteners, you are putting your health at risk.
Dr. Russell L. Blaylock, a professor of neurosurgery at the Medical University of Mississippi, recently published a book thoroughly detailing the damage that is caused by the ingestion of excessive aspartic acid from aspartame. Blaylock makes use of almost 500 scientific references to show how excess free excitatory amino acids such as aspartic acid and glutamic acid (about 99 percent of monosodium glutamate (MSG) is glutamic acid) in our food supply cause serious chronic neurological disorders and a myriad of other acute symptoms.
Also, we notice that when "sugar free" products are taken out of the diet of patients with back and neck pain, they get better much quicker and feel more vital in less time. The inflammation subsides much more quickly in most of these cases. Watch this videos below for the full story of corruption and cover-up around Aspartame!
Aspartame (E951) is an artificial sweetener, used in over 6000 products. The food industry claims that aspartame helps in losing weight, but why is obesity then becoming such an ever increasing problem?
Aspartame is a very sweet chemical, responsible for a host of health problems such as obesity, diabetes, MS, epilepsy, cancer, brain disorders, migraines, ADHD, etc.
Other artificial sweeteners that you should avoid:
Acesulfame K (E950), Cyclamate (E952), Isomalt (E953), Saccharin (E954), Sucralose or Splenda (E955), Alitame (E956), Neohesperidine (E959), Neotame (E961), Salt of Aspartame-Acesulfame (E962), Maltitol (E965), Lactitol (E966), Sorbitol (E420), Mannitol (E421), Glycerol (E422).

The aspartame crowd, historically aware their chemical disintegrates when heated or stored, seeks a coating to protect it. In the 5/7/1985 Senate Congressional Record are found the objections of the National Soft Drink Association protesting government approval of APM for use in soft drinks, pages S5507-11. A major objection was that APM decomposes, which process accelerates as the thermometer climbs. NSDA gave the example of a stack of Diet Soda in front of a Tucson, Arizona gas station.
NSDA certified that APM breakdown adulterates foods & drinks: "The present record does not contain data which demonstrate that the use of APM in soft drinks will not result in adulteration of the beverages under section 402(a)(3) of the FDC Act 21 U.S.C. 342 (a) (3), which provides that a food is adulterated if it contains, in whole or in part, a decomposed substance or if it is otherwise unfit for food." http://www.mpwhi.com/open_letter_dick_adamson.htm
