Water does not forget, says Prof. Boris Koch, a chemist at the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in the Helmholtz Association. Irrespective of what happens in the sea: whether the sun shines, algae bloom or a school of dolphins swims through a marine area – everything and everyone leaves biomolecular tracks. With the help of a combination of new techniques, Boris Koch and colleagues can now identify and retrace some of these. In a special volume of the open access journal Biogeosciences, these scientists report on how these analyses work and which events in the sea have so far been uncovered by researchers.
Researchers working with Prof. Dr. Boris Koch, travelling on the Polarstern research ship, took water samples containing dissolved organic matter or DOM from the sea. The subsequent analysis in the mass spectrometer generates a chemical fingerprint which indicates the origin of the organic substances. Do they original from land plants or marine organisms, or did they enter the ocean via dust in the air or along springs on the sea bed? The analysis also permits conclusions to be made about the age of substances in the water – they can float in the ocean for several thousand years!

Vitamin D cuts cavities in half
by: Sherry Baker, Health Sciences Editor

(NaturalNews) With less time spent outdoors and the constant use of sunscreen by many, vitamin D levels are decreasing in many populations. Meanwhile, the number of cavities in children's teeth has gone up. Is there a connection? A new review of multiple studies of dental caries, or tooth decay, and vitamin D indicates the answer is yes. In fact, studies of kids in many countries link vitamin D intake to a whopping 50 percent reduction in cavities.

Yet another study suggests sperm numbers are falling in rich countries

AS HEALTH scares go, the idea that sperm counts are plummeting across the industrialised world, probably as a result of chemical pollution that has an adverse hormonal effect, takes some beating. In 1992 a meta-analysis of 61 papers, published in the British Medical Journal, suggested they had fallen by half in the preceding half-century, from 113m per millilitre of semen to 66m. Since then, the decline has apparently continued. The most recent paper, just published in Human Reproduction, by JoĆ«lle le Moal, Matthieu Rolland and their colleagues at France’s Institute for Public Health Surveillance, is also one of the most comprehensive yet.

Canadian Researchers Discover New Evidence That Vitamin D Shuts Down Cancer Cells
By Mae Chan - preventdisease.com
Researchers at McGill University have discovered a molecular basis for the cancerpreventive effects of vitamin D, whereby its active form essentially shuts down cancer cells.
People with higher blood levels of vitamin D live significantly longer than people who have low blood levels of the vitamin.
The team, led by McGill professors John White and David Goltzman, of the Faculty of Medicine’s Department of Physiology, discovered that the active form of vitamin D acts by several mechanisms to inhibit both the production and function of the protein cMYC. cMYC drives cell division and is active at elevated levels in more than half of all cancers. Their results are published in the latest edition of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Spain study confirms hemp oil cures cancer without side effects
The International Medical Veritas Association (IMVA) is putting hemp oil on its cancer protocol. It is a prioritized protocol list whose top five items are magnesium chloride, iodine, selenium, Alpha Lipoic Acid and sodium bicarbonate. It makes perfect sense to drop hemp oil right into the middle of this nutritional crossfire of anti cancer medicines, which are all available without prescription.

Hemp oil has long been recognised as one of the most versatile and beneficial substances known to man. Derived from hemp seeds (a member of the achene family of fruits) it has been regarded as a superfood due to its high essential fatty acid content and the unique ratio of omega3 to omega6 and gamma linolenic acid (GLA) – 2:5:1. Hemp oil, is known to contain up to 5% of pure GLA, a much higher concentration than any other plant, even higher than spirulina. For thousands of years, the hemp plant has been used in elixirs and medicinal teas because of its healing properties and now medical science is zeroing in on the properties of its active substances.

Dangers of mixing grapefruit with drugs rises
The number of drugs when mixed with grapefruit that can lead to serious health problems, including sudden death, has skyrocketed, warns a Canadian researcher who first discovered the toxic link.
In an article in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, David Bailey, a scientist at the Lawson Health Research Institute in London, Ontario, said more than 85 drugs, many of them highly prescribed for common medical conditions, are known to interact with the pink fruit.
He first made the link 20 years ago.
But the number of medications with the potential to interact with grapefruit and cause serious adverse health effects has jumped from 17 to 43 in the last four years, as new drugs have been rolled out, Bailey said.

Abortion Boosts Breast Cancer Risk 193% Study Finds, Giving Birth Lowers It
by Steven Ertelt

Babol, Iran (LifeNews.com) – Researchers in Iran have published the results of a new study showing women who have an abortion face a 193% increased risk of breast cancer. On the other hand, women who carry a pregnancy to term find a lowered breast cancer risk compared with women who have never been pregnant.
The study follows on the heels of new reports indicating Komen for the Cure gave $7.5 million to the Planned Parenthood abortion business in 2009.
The findings were reported in the April 3, 2010 issue of Medical Oncology but are coming to the public’s attention only now.

Aspartame-Cancer Link Exposed: Increasing Your Cancer Risk
by Elizabeth Renter
There have been several studies over the years that established a link between aspartame consumption and cancer risk. But, these studies were frequently criticized as being too small, only capturing a short period of time, and otherwise not living up to strict scientific standards. A new study, however, addresses these concerns and substantiates what the previous ones already said: that aspartame in diet soda can increase your risk of certain types of cancer, exponentially. It seems the aspartame-cancer link has been exposed…again.

The Aspartame-Cancer Link
Scientists looked at data from the Nurses’ Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study for a period of 22 years, including over 77,000 female study subjects and nearly 48,000 males. In all, the giant study looked at “2,278,396 person-years of data”, the most of all previous aspartame studies.Friday, 23 November 2012
4D scans show foetuses yawn in the womb
Growing into a fully formed human being is a long process, and scientists have found that unborn babies not only hiccup, swallow and stretch in the womb, they also yawn

Researchers who studied 4D scans of 15 healthy foetuses also said they think yawning is a developmental process which could potentially give doctors a new way to check on a baby's health.

South Africa's child vaccination rates lower than those of Malawi
A dangerous game of darts in the dark
By Daniel Berman and Gregory Hussey
South Africa claims with pride its status as a middle-income country and economic powerhouse but when it comes to saving the lives of children through routine immunisations, we are far behind neighbouring countries. By 2010, South Africa was already spending R1.2 billion on vaccine procurement every year but child vaccination rates remained low – lower than those of Malawi, a country with 8% of South Africa’s per capita income.
Recently, Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) South Africa questioned the current system in South Africa at the inaugural International African Vaccinology Conference in Cape Town.
For MSF South Africa and others concerned about immunisation, the facts are clear: young South African children are not receiving basic immunisations. Meanwhile, South Africa is overpaying for these vaccines while under-spending on programme support.

30 Important Websites For Highly Sensitive People
HSP Health Blog offers insight into the highly sensitive trait and its genetic and stress diseases. It offers alternative health strategies for HSP’s to support their highest functioning.
Have you noticed the increased interest in introverts and highly sensitive people?
In 1996, Dr. Elaine Aron published her groundbreaking book, The Highly Sensitive Person, opening a door that could not be kept closed any longer. Highly sensitive people have been treated as if there is something wrong with them for a long time, when in fact they are among the most caring, conscientious and creative people on the planet.
As the downsides of our current cultural model becomes increasingly apparent and the need for serious change becomes more accepted, many people will be seeking a different perspective, new skills and even an adjustment in values.

When Is Ejaculation ‘Premature,’ and what to do about it?
Article by James Hamblin, MD, is The Atlantic‘s Health editor.
With personal lidocaine spray, anesthetized genitals are just a “please excuse me for a moment” away.
How long is sex supposed to last? One consensus of sex therapists said 3 to 7 minutes of penis-in-vagina is “adequate,” while 7 to 13 minutes is “desirable.”
If three minutes is adequate, then when does being a little quick on the trigger become an actual medical diagnosis?
The International Society of Sexual Medicine defines premature ejaculation as meeting all of three criteria: finishing most of the time within one minute and having it result in personal distress.

Indonesians plagued by blindness
During eight days, more than 1,400 cataracts were removed.
They came from the remotest parts of Indonesia, taking crowded overnight ferries and riding for hours in cars or buses - all in the hope that a simple, and free, surgical procedure would restore their eyesight.
Many patients were elderly and needed help to reach two hospitals in Sumatra where mass eye camps were held earlier this month by Nepalese surgeon Dr. Sanduk Ruit. During eight days, more than 1,400 cataracts were removed.
The patients camped out, sleeping side-by-side on military cots, eating donated food while fire trucks supplied them with water for showers and toilets. Many who had given up hope of ever seeing again left smiling after their bandages were removed.

Physicians: Birth control should be sold without a prescription
(CNN) -- In the future, women may be able to buy birth control pills alongside ibuprofen and cough drops if the recommendation of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists is adopted.
The group is recommending that oral contraceptives be sold over the counter without a prescription in an effort to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies in the United States.
Approximately 50% of all pregnancies are unplanned, a rate that hasn't changed much in the past 20 years, according to the Guttmacher Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to reproductive health research. Women in their 20s are most at risk.

An ethics debate on IVF doctor selling large quantities of Human Embryos at cheap prices
You knew it would come to this. To reduce costs, an IVF doctor is making mass quantities of embryos and selling them on the cheap. From the LA Times story:
Dr. Ernest Zeringue was looking for a niche in the cut throat industry of fertility treatments. He seized on price, a huge obstacle for many patients, and in late 2010 began advertising a deal at his Davis, Calif., clinic unheard of anywhere else: Pregnancy for $9,800 or your money back.
That’s about half the price for in vitro fertilization at many other clinics, which do not include money-back guarantees.

The shocking truth about what's really in vaccines: Mercury, MSG, Formaldehyde, Aluminum
Do you really know what's in vaccines? According to the CDC, all the following neurotoxic metals and chemicals are intentionally added to vaccines: Mercury, MSG (monosodium glutamate), Formaldehyde and Aluminum.
These toxic elements should never be INJECTED into any human being! Their toxicity explains the deadly side effects of vaccines, including:
* Comas
* Seizures
* High fevers
* Spontaneous abortions
* Death
So why doesn't the vaccine industry make "clean" vaccines without these additives? The answer is because the whole point of vaccines is not to medically help people, but rather to intentionally POISON them.

Heart attacks more common among the unemployed
People who have recently lost their jobs are more likely to suffer a heart attack than their employed peers, in some cases running a risk as high as 35%, according to a US study.

Researchers, whose results appeared in the Archives of Internal Medicine, found that each successive job loss was tied to a higher chance of heart problems among more than 13 000 older adults, although it’s not clear how unemployment itself might have caused the extra heart attacks.

The New Medicine of Dr Hamer
by Walter Last
Dr Hamer was persecuted and jailed for perhaps curing more people of cancer than anybody else in human history, his work lives on.
Dr Hamer had an exceptionally high success rate with his cancer therapy, by far the highest I have seen of any therapy. During one of several trials of the persecuted Dr Hamer the public prosecutor (Wiener-Neustadt in Austria) had to admit that after 4 to 5 years 6,000 out of 6,500 patients with mostly advanced cancer were still alive. That is over 90%, almost a reversal of the results to be expected after conventional treatment of advanced conditions.
Dr Hamer started his cancer research when he developed testicle cancer after his son was shot dead. He wondered if his son's death was the cause of his cancer. Subsequently he investigated and documented over 15,000 cases of cancer and always found the following characteristics to be present, which he termed the Iron Rules of Cancer.

Lithium: How Good is it?
Many people worry that lithium is one of psychiatry's "Big Guns", something we use for patients with really severe mental illnesses. They think, "Hey, I'm not that sick", and conclude that lithium is not right for them.
They don't know that lithium, in lower doses, is used in plain depression (not bipolar, not severe). In fact, for depression that hasn't fully responded to an antidepressant, one research group calls it "Step 1A" -- the thing to do, in some cases, before switching to another antidepressant.
But one of the strongest arguments for lithium is the way it appears to protect neurons. So I wanted to show you the world's expert on how lithium works, talking about this aspect of lithium's potential benefits. His full comments, on a range of topics, from his interview with a great bipolar advocacy organization, can be read on this link at the Child and Adolescent Bipolar Foundation(CABF).

Signs of Intestinal Virus
Intestinal viruses cause a condition called viral gastroenteritis. According to the National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse, viral gastroenteritis is the second most common illness in the United States, causing millions of cases of diarrhea each year. It is highly contagious and, while usually mild, can cause severe disease in the elderly, in very young children and in those with a weakened immune system.
Types
There are several viruses that cause gastroenteritis. Rotavirus is the most common cause of gastroenteritis in children. It usually affects children less than 2 years old, mostly during the winter and spring. Caliciviruses cause disease in all age groups. One of them, the norovirus, is responsible for epidemics of gastroenteritis between the months of October and April. And even though viral gastroenteritis is called "the stomach flu," the flu virus usually does not cause gastroenteritis,The Age of Treason: 1958 Book Exposes Chemical Attack on Humanity

Dr. R. Swinburne Clymer was in many ways a man ahead of his time, and most certainly controversial. He was attacked by the medical establishment for connecting diet with disease and mental health in his 1917 book Dietetics. Dr. Clymer received his medical degree in 1902 from the College of Medicine and Surgery in Chicago and began practicing Osteopathy. Accusations of fraud surround Dr. Clymer’s career, including this 1923 edition of the Journal of the American Medical Association which claims that, “Our records fail to show that this man was ever regularly graduated by any reputable medical college.” What Clymer had to say more than likely had something to do with the denouncement that he received from the medical establishment.

Earthing - The Ultimate Antioxidant
By Dr. Mercola
Story at-a-glance
Modern rubber and plastic-soled shoes act as electrical insulators and therefore block the beneficial flow of electrons from the earth to your body.
Studies have shown that earthing or grounding improves blood viscosity, heart rate variability, inflammation, cortisol dynamics, sleep, autonomic nervous system (ANS) balance, and reduces effects of stress.
Earthing decreases the effect of these potentially disruptive electromagnetic fields.
A Body Voltage Meter can determine how much electricity is induced when lying in bed or sitting in a chair, and how much the electric charge is reduced by grounding.
Do you notice you feel better when you walk barefoot on the Earth? Recent research has explained why this happens.

The Energy of Food: A Missing Piece in Weight Loss
As a psychiatrist I know that there is more to overeating and obesity than meets the eye. Genetics play a role, as do hormonal and psychological triggers. However, one big reason that many diets fail is that traditional weight-loss programs don’t factor in how we process energy.
Sensitive people, whom I call emotional empaths in my book “Emotional Freedom,” unknowingly overeat in response to being overwhelmed by stress, anxiety or negativity. Empaths are extremely sensitive and become an emotional sponge for the stress of the world — they absorb it into their bodies. If this is you, the following information will be helpful. (To find out if you are an empath, take the “empath quiz” in my companion blog, “Are You An Emotional Empath?“)

Abortion - Another Perspective
A worried woman went to her gynaecologist and said: 'Doctor, I have a serious problem and desperately need your help!'
'My baby is not even 1 year old and I'm pregnant again. I don't want kids so close together.'
So the doctor said: 'Ok and what do you want me to do?'
She said: 'I want you to end my pregnancy, and I'm counting on your help with this.'
The doctor thought for a little, and after some silence he said to the lady: 'I think I have a better solution for your problem. It's less dangerous for you too.' She smiled, thinking that the doctor was going to accept her request.
Then he continued: 'You see, in order for you not to have to take care of 2 babies at the same time, let's kill the one in your arms. This way, you could rest some before the other one is born. If we're going to kill one of them, it doesn't matter which one it is. There would be no risk for your body if you chose the one in your arms.'
The lady was horrified and said: 'No doctor! How terrible! It's a crime to kill a child!'
'I agree', the doctor replied. 'But you seemed to be OK with it, so I thought maybe that was the best solution.' The doctor smiled, realising that he had made his point. He convinced the mom that there is no difference in killing a child that's already been born and one that's still in the womb. The crime is the same!

'My baby is not even 1 year old and I'm pregnant again. I don't want kids so close together.'
So the doctor said: 'Ok and what do you want me to do?'

WHO urges people to reveal depression, goal is to pump up big pharma medication sales
By Elizabeth Renter
Natural Society
On World Mental Health Day (October 10), the World Health Organization (WHO) let it be known that more than 350 million people worldwide suffer from depression. But, they say, a stigma is still attached to the condition, leading people to keep their struggles quiet rather than reaching out for help. The WHO says the stigma must be dropped so that depressed individuals can have access to treatment, including therapy and Big Pharma medications.

Makeup and plastics may be causing early menopause
By Makini Brice
Medical Daily
Researchers warn that chemicals in cosmetics, plastics, and household cleaners could be causing women to go through menopause early.
Researchers from the Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri looked at data from 5,708 women who had been participants in the United States National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Women who had been exposed to high amounts of certain chemicals were likely to undergo menopause as much as two years early - a change from 51 years old, the average age for the onset of menopause in the United States, to 49 years old.

CAT scanner at SA Public hospital not fixed due to unpaid bills
A medical supply company is refusing to fix a Leratong hospital CAT scanner which has been broken for six weeks because it is owned money by the health department, the DA claimed on Sunday.
This was putting patients' lives at risk, said Democratic Alliance Gauteng health spokesman Jack Bloom.
He said emergency patients at Leratong had to wait hours to be taken to another hospital for scans.
"Supply company TecMed refuses to replace the tube in the CAT scanner as the Gauteng Health Department owes them money," said Bloom.
Department spokesman Simon Zwane said Leratong hospital management was interacting with TecMed to get the machine fixed.
He said there had been a dispute with TecMed about how much it had been paid for its services and how much it was still owed by the department.
"Management is working on getting the machine fixed."
Regarding an accusation by Bloom that operations at Helen Joseph hospital had to be cancelled on Thursday when it ran out of a special paper used when sterilising surgical instruments, Zwane said the hospital received more paper on Friday.
"Another batch of the paper will be delivered this coming week," he said.
